You can gather ingredients from gathering points.
Each gathering point offers different types of ingredients and has different ways to gather.
Different Ways of Gathering
The gathering method will vary depending on the icon displayed on the gathering point.
Standard Gathering
Gather bare-handed. You can gather while moving.

Gathering with Staff / Gathering Tools
Swing your staff or a gathering tool to gather ingredients.
Hold down the assigned button in front of a certain gathering point to perform a charged swing and gather a large amount of ingredients at once.

Switching between Staff and Gathering Tools
Some gathering points will only allow you to gather ingredients if you have the appropriate gathering tool.
Even at the same gathering point, switching between gathering tools can yield different ingredients.

Creating and Equipping Gathering Tools
Gathering tools can be synthesized with alchemy. Equip the synthesized tool from Main Menu > Items.
Recipes for the basic gathering tools are available from the beginning of the game. You can learn how to make other tools through Recipe Morph during synthesis. Make it a priority to synthesize gathering tools and don't forget to equip them after they are created.
Gathering Rank
Raise your gathering rank to gather more types of ingredients. The trait types, numbers, levels, and quality of the ingredients you gather will increase based on your gathering rank.
How you can raise the gathering rank varies depending on the gathering tool.
Standard Gathering / Gathering with a Staff
Learn the corresponding skill in the Skill Tree to raise the rank.
There are also skills that will increase the quality or quantity of the ingredients you gather.
Gathering with Gathering Tools
Apply the corresponding effect during synthesis to raise the gathering rank.
For example, Grass Sickles can be upgraded by applying "Cutting" > "Master Cutting" > "Capable Cutting" in order of increasing effect.
You can also increase the quality or quantity of the ingredients you gather.
Make good use of Item Rebuilding and upgrade your gathering tools.
